Mentoring Summer Programme
Where did Ada Lovelace, born in 1815, find inspiration to become the first computer programmer? And how did Katherine Johnson, an African American woman, become John Glenn’s go-to mathematician who verified the computer equations that would control the trajectory of his 1962 space flight from blastoff to splashdown? Both women showed a talent for mathematics at an early age, but it was their mentors who set them on their unlikely career paths.
It’s safe to say that no single company has cracked the code for building a diverse and inclusive IT culture. Having a mentor can make a big difference for women looking to start or advance their digital career; in fact, a lack of mentors and female role models are the top two barriers experienced by women in technology.
Join our mentoring programme
Mentoring can support you in navigating a promotion, delivering on expanded responsibility, or working through a particular situation, challenge or opportunity. This programme is offered for free to RightBrains community members. Participation is limited to 25 duos.
Programme set-up
Before the programme starts we will match you to a mentor or mentee based on your experience and interests, which you expressed while creating an account on the RightBrains platform. You will meet each other at the kick-off event and together you will make a plan. During the summer, 4 online sessions will give you the tools you need to, for example, articulate your value, get paid what you’re worth, and own your career. We will organise our Grand Finale Mentoring event at the end of September.
Our teacher
Nikki Wilton has worked as a sales leader in the technology industry for over 25 years, leading (mostly male) global teams to meet and exceed order and revenue goals in the competitive world of technology sales. Nikki has come a long way from her first position in the industry, where she started out in a temporary job as a credit controller for British Rail Telecommunications.
In 2016, Nikki was asked by the CEO of Xchanging Ltd to join the company’s diversity & inclusion steering committee. Since that first meeting, and the committees decision to invest in the company’s most promising female talent, Nikki has led programmes for aspiring women globally who want to get ahead.
Pay it forward and become a mentor!
We matched 25 ambitious mentees to a mentor. Registration for this programme is closed but you can still find your mentor match on our RightBrains career and mentor platform. Create an account and your best matches will appear on your dachboard based on your interests.
Testimonials
“When I see Nikki mentoring people just from the goodness of her heart, and being such a confident, strong and kind woman, that is inspiring. With what little time she had available, she made a huge impact in my life and I am extremely grateful to her. Having such a role model not only helps you to grow, but also prepares you to become a mentor and give back to other people.” Janita, NL
“The Missing 33% was a real eye-opener! I feel like I’ve been missing this huge part of my career not knowing this information. Everything said was spot on, and I never heard anything like that before. It makes total sense.” Tiffany, USA.
“Since joining the course my social media presence has improved with an increase of interest from both internal and external networks on LinkedIn. It has also been an enabler of promotion opportunities from the education on articulating how my achievements have directly improved our business operations." Ashley, UK
“After this program, I had the confidence to really push for a pay increase. I gathered all of my evidence and had some very honest conversations with my manager – who in turn pushed my request through as an exception. I ended up with a 41% increase. Thanks for helping me get there!” Rebecca, UK
