From ‘Women’ to ‘We’: WIQD unveils inclusive rebrand
RightBrains is delighted to share news, blogs and learnings from partners or our RightBrains United Network. We caught up with WIQD after their annual symposium in 2025 and support their latest exciting announcement.
As quantum research and technology continue to evolve at remarkable speed, the sector still grapples with persistent challenges around diversity and inclusion. WIQD (formerly Women in Quantum Development), a long-standing advocate for gender equity in quantum, recently announced a powerful rebrand to reflect a broader and more inclusive mission.
The organisation, originally founded to support and connect women within the quantum ecosystem, has grown into a thriving community that uplifts, encourages, and champions its members. Over time, WIQD began to hear from individuals across the wider ecosystem — people who had not always felt represented or included, but who were looking for the same sense of belonging. In response, the organisation has entered a new chapter: Women in Quantum Development is now We in Quantum Development.
Why 'We'?
The new name, 'We in Quantum Development', represents a shift towards greater inclusivity. While the organisation remains firmly committed to supporting women in quantum, the rebrand reflects its evolving mission to welcome and support people of all backgrounds, identities, and disciplines. “We want to create a space where everyone feels like they belong — no matter where they come from or who they are,” says Judith Kreukels, Head of Programmes at WIQD.
What the Change Means in Practice
The rebrand is more than a name change; it represents an expanded vision for WIQD’s role in the future of quantum. The initiative will continue to:
- Champion diversity, equity, and inclusion: WIQD remains committed to breaking down barriers to opportunity within the quantum ecosystem. Inclusion is positioned not as an afterthought, but as a fundamental driver of innovation and excellence.
- Create spaces for connection, learning, and growth: Through a rich programme of events, including Inspirational Talks by role models, an Annual Symposium, workshops, and informal meetups, WIQD fosters environments where individuals can learn, connect, and grow — personally, professionally, and collectively.
- Uplift underrepresented voices and stories: Recognising the power of visibility, WIQD continues to centre stories from underrepresented groups.
- Collaborate for systemic change: True inclusion requires partnership. WIQD works closely with academic institutions, industry leaders, and policy-makers to build a more equitable and connected quantum ecosystem.
Reimagining Belonging
For WIQD, inclusion goes beyond representation — it is about culture. The organisation is actively exploring questions such as:
- Who feels welcome in quantum?
- Whose leadership is recognised?
- What does success look like when a diversity of thought, experience, and expression is truly valued?
“At WIQD, we want people to show up as themselves. Because quantum needs all kinds of thinkers and all kinds of people,” added Kreukels.
Looking Ahead
WIQD has outlined several strategic priorities for its next phase, including:
- Launching a mentorship programme to connect underrepresented talent with established leaders in quantum.
- Hosting events and panels focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Advocating for a more inclusive quantum ecosystem.
- Conducting research to better understand access and opportunity within the field.
These initiatives are part of WIQD’s long-term commitment to foster a quantum ecosystem that is inclusive, intentional, and collaborative.
Join the Movement
The rebrand marks a moment of both reflection and momentum. WIQD invites all who are passionate about shaping a more inclusive quantum ecosystem to follow its journey — through its newsletter, community events, and social media. Because the future of quantum is not only about science and technology — it is, fundamentally, about people!
Welcome to We in Quantum Development. Welcome to WIQD.
