Floortje Rasenberg is the Chief Technology Officer at Budget Thuis, a prominent provider of affordable energy and telecommunications services. Known for her infectious enthusiasm and energy, Floortje made a memorable impression at the first RightBrains Ask Me Anything session. With a dynamic background that includes roles as a vibrant entrepreneur and interim Managing Director of businesses like The Dutch Weed Burger, Floortje is driven by a commitment to sustainability and customer-centric goals.

A quest towards sustainability

It was not necessarily Floortje’s interest in technology that set her on the career trajectory toward the designation of Chief Technology Officer of Budget Thuis, but rather a deep-rooted passion for serving customers. She did some soul-searching after 10+ successful years in the financial industry, and realised that she wanted to delve deeper into the field of sustainability. “I was asking myself what I really wanted to do, and it was quite clear to me: I wanted to influence SDG goals and make impact, and I want to be in a position to gather and rally people towards this cause,” she explains. She became actively involved in various start/scale-ups in the energy/telco, fashion, and food sectors as an active managing director or C-level colleague. She eventually made Budget Thuis her permanent professional home last year. “I find it so exciting that so many companies are now essentially tech companies – and that the tech is central in the full-circle customer journey. This is where I’m able to explore what really makes a high-performance tech team for the good of the customer. ”

Goal-chaser and memory maker

Beyond her work, Floortje strives to live a healthy, fulfilling life with her two young children, two dogs, entrepreneurial husband, and many friends, embracing a wide variety of interests: from vegan eating to community work, to hiking. She sets herself one personal goal each year – it can be anything that challenges her. This has included getting a motorcycle and truck driver's license, walking the Camino de Santiago, taking a freestyle swimming course and skydiving. Her latest endeavor is a volunteering trip to the Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe, where she hopes to serve the local village through a community outreach project. To Floortje, personal growth is important to stay at the top of her game. She believes that there is a direct correlation between finding balance and life satisfaction, and she is inspired by beauty in many shapes and forms.

Asking her anything

Budget Thuis has proudly been supporting RightBrains as a partner and was also featured in the RightBrains DIGIDIVA Magazine in 2024.  Floortje was also super keen to be a part of the first RightBrains Ask Me Anything session, where RightBrains community members and other women in tech could ask her some candid questions to progress their own careers. “As a 43-year old millennial, my hope was to offer some advice – but I also loved hearing about the perspectives of others.” She believes that it’s an exciting time to be in tech; although everyone needs their ‘flying hours’, many tech leads are young and their careers are progressing faster than before the wide-scale use of AI to do routine coding. She also believes that it’s a fantastic time to be a woman in tech, because we bring some vital skills to the table. “Many women that I work with are natural multi-taskers with the ability to connect the dots and view a situation holistically. In my personal experience, women are a little bit more comfortable in a servant-leadership role, which is a critical part of a strong IT team.” Her most important piece of advice to fellow women in tech? “You have to create and embrace opportunities for yourself. It makes everyone feel uncomfortable and insecure sometimes – even me. Harness a ‘just do it’ mentality and be bold in the face of rejection.”
