Marit Smid: Supercharging self-confidence
Tuesday, February 3, 2026
Marit Smid is a mentor and trainer who focuses on the subconscious: the unseen thoughts and patterns that dictate about 90% of what we feel, think, and do. She is joining us as a workshop teacher in the upcoming RightBrains Digital Talent Programme and will help participants unlock and supercharge their self-confidence.
Before her passion project for mentoring ‘got out of hand’, as she good-naturedly puts it, she was a law graduate with several years of consulting experience at PwC with projects at the Ministry of Defence (Defensie), Rijkswaterstaat (the Directorate-General for Public Works and Water Management) and the Dutch Tax and Customs Administration (Belastingdienst). She also completed a tenure as a company secretary at APG. It was during her years in corporate that Marit witnessed firt-hand how new employees felt inhibited by their fear of failure. “Ultimately, fear makes us avoid things that could lead to unprecedented growth. That thought set me on a course to step out of corporate life to be better positioned to help others with the unconscious thoughts that govern their progress.”
Finding ‘rapid resolutions’
In the mentoring business that she now runs, Marit utilises the Rapid Resolution Therapy® method, which zooms in on how the unconscious mind processes information. “I find that this method is not only effective but also gentle and enjoyable, bringing relief to the nervous system and allowing people to make it their own – individually, as well as in a group setting. Marit’s participation in the Digital Talent Programme follows her personal resolution to do more masterclasses and group sessions in 2026. “This topic and programme lies close to my heart, because my personal mentors encouraged me to follow a new career path myself.”
Resting in action
In her recent RightBrains Techtonic Shifts column, she elaborated why she believes that self-confidence is a myth that can hold women back. “It assumes that confidence is a prerequisite for taking action. In reality, it’s the other way around. I can’t wait to work with a group of incredible talents to help shape their self-image. Sometimes, we internalise negative beliefs and convince ourselves they are part of our identities – when they may be circumstantial or one-off experiences.” She believes that a fresh perspective on your own thoughts and emotions can change perception, and breakthroughs can be made once that perception changes. “I call it resting in action – when you can exhale, your focus sharpens, and your energy peaks.”
